High purity gallium

Development of technology for processing gallium-contained raw materials (induced, natural) resulting in production of high purity gallium of 6N and 7N grade (99.9999 and 99.99999) by TC 48-4-350.

Developed technologies can include pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical process stages to extract crude gallium having high extraction rate, as well as crystal and hydrochemical methods of crude gallium purification allowing to produce high purity metal. Hard metal density is 5,904 (20°С), molten metal density is 6.095 (29,8°С). i.e. gallium volume is increased at solidification; melting temperature is 29,8°С, boiling temperature is 2230°С. Gallium dissolves slowly in sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, and quickly in hydrofluoric acid; it is cold stable in nitric acid. Gallium dissolves slowly in hot alkali solutions. It interacts with all structural metals and alloys at temperatures higher than 300°.

Gallium is mostly used in the form of GaAs, GaP, GaSb type chemical compounds having semiconductor properties. They can be used in high-temperature rectifiers and transistors, solar batteries and other devices where barrier layer photocell can be used, as well as in infrared detectors. Gallium can be used for producing optical mirrors distinguishing by high reflection power. Aluminum and gallium alloy is suggested to be used as clinical ultraviolet lamp cathode instead of mercury. Liquid gallium and its alloys are used in producing high-temperature (600 - 1300°С) thermometers and manometers. In Germany, gallium alloy is used for production of common clinical thermometers. Using gallium and its alloys as liquid coolant in power reactors is of some interest. Typical analysis of produced gallium of 7N grade (99,99999).

Enterprises and organizations interested in producing marketable products from various types of gallium-contained raw materials can be customers for developing high purity gallium production technology.

We have technical and process capabilities to produce high purity gallium in amount of 100 kg per month. We also have process capabilities to produce alloys based on gallium and indium in amount of up to 20 kg per month, and to produce gallium and indium oxides including fine-dispersed ones (90% is no less then 5 mcm) in amount of 5 - 20 kg per month.
